Story

A girl from the beach

A little girl on the beach gave a lesson to an adult man. This is a story which shows a difference between child´s and adult´s thinking.

I decided to walk down the beach. I thought the walk would revitalize my body and my mind. So I went out. Walking barefoot on the beach I enjoyed the beauty of summer holidays.

It was sunny and almost windless. One could say it was just paradise on earth. It was just awesome.

From a distance I noticed a little girl who was about 6 years old. She was moving along the shore. She was constantly throwing something into the sea. She bent, picked up something and threw it again into the sea. And so over and over again. I was curious about what she was throwing. So I went closer to recognize the things.

After a while, I was close enough to see what the little girl was repeatedly throwing back into the sea. They were starfish that had been flooded out on the seashore. That's why I decided to help her. I called on her: "Hey, girl, it is pointless throwing the starfish back. Just a few of them will survive, so it does not really matter," I said and felt wise because I told her the truth and saved her from unnecessary work.

But the little girl reacted completely differently than I expected. In fact, she shocked me. She lifted another starfish over her head, and told me: "No, this starfish does care!" And chucked it up back into the sea. And then another one, more and more. I remained stumped watching how many other stars she was throwing back.

I realized she was right. Even if only one starfish survived, it was worth it. Everybody has a chance to live. When a car crash happens and it looks like the injured will not survive, we are still fighting for their lifes until the last heartbeat. And when the heart stops beating, we still keep trying. Like the little girl. Some starfish must survive! So it actually does matter!

With tears in my eyes and a little lesson from a small child, I joined the little girl and threw the starfish back into the sea. The more I threw them back, the better I felt. Inside I wished as many as posible of them to survive. And I believe that was what actually happened.

That evening I got a lesson I'll remember. That little girl made my day. It was actually one of the most beautiful days. I will never forget it. That little girl will stay in my heart and I will follow her forever.

After love, helping others is the most beautiful human state, which we can experience.

From that day onwards, in my weekly activities, I have one important task for each week: Help people, animals or nature, "and "give it back". Because it does matter! Because helping others heals and makes a fairy tale from our lives! And I do not know how about you, but I enjoy fairy tales.

"A moment of help is better than 10 days of regret."

Moral lesson:

  • Hope dies last
  • Do not decide for others and do not have false expectations
  • Give something back and enjoy the happiness from helping
  • These rules work also in business
